"Joined today"

   Hey all,
I am an absolute Newbie. Just joined today. bought a new Ditaonic Harmonica of the key 'C' Lee Oskar. All pumped up, but cant get the single note ). tried everything to get a vertical slot, but still not vertical enough. I guess this is normal, has anyone (who can now play the single notes clearly) faced the same problem in the begining? Tell me the truth, I dont get discouraged easily!! Well.. shall keep trying, till I get the single notes clearly.

Long you live and High you fly,
Smiles you give, Tears you cry,
All you touch, all you see,
Will all your life, will ever be..

Welcome to the board!

Yes, everyone has the problem you describe. You get over it with practice and patience. Soon you'll wonder why you ever couldn't do it. It'll become second nature.

   Thanks Shaggy,

Just wonderimg, why cantImake my lips with a vertical gap
I have tried so much, but it still seem to play over two holes. Sometimes I get the single not clearly, but as soon as I move my harmonica to the next hole, it goes back to the old ways!! frustrated, but not beaten!!

sujesharukil,

Watch yourself in the mirror.

If it helps, hold the harmonica with one hand and use the other hand to squeeze in the corners of your lips to maintain the single note and "vertical slot". Play with this for a week or so until your mouth begins to understand what it needs to do. It is not uncommon for this aspect of playing (single notes) to take a few weeks or more for beginning players.

Play on,
Dave
