"U.S. Army Ceremony Calls + National Anthem"

Recently I convinced the Colonel at my school to let me play the harmonica live for our rotc flag ceremonies rather than play a recorded bugle, which I think isnt comparable to a live player. These calls are used in the military as also some boy scouts I believe.

This is whats played while the flags go up in the morning.

Chris,

Good job on the tabs. By the way, how did the "gig" go. Were you nervous and how many people did you play in front? It seems the whole affair might make a good short story for the Short Stories section-

Thanks and congratulations,

I think it went pretty well. I used the karaoke machine we usually use that plays the recording and plugged in my green bullet. So I cranked that up way loud. I didnt really feel nervous even in front of about 70 people in formation, knowing everyone probably helps cure worrying about screwing up, the only thing that bothered me was running out of air with all the blow notes and trying to get a couple of quick breathes in there.

However, just the night before I played my first real performance infront of strangers. I posted a message a little while ago asking where do you find hangouts to listen or play harmonica. We'll I found a place less than a mile away from me that has a great open mic night every Tuesday.

So I went there with my harps and my girlfriend and sister. I did feel a little uncomfortable there because not being a regular or knowing anyone really. I didnt really want to ask to jam with them but my sister (whos 13) was going to flip out on me if I didnt. So finally they called me up to play in the key of C, and I wasnt thinking and took my G harp up. Then I realized and had to run back during the song and get my F. They probably thought I was a real newbie. Then I got my chance to solo and it went great. I played a lot of fast licks and I could tell they had a surprised look on their face. Then everyone applauded afterwards and it felt great.

Now I plan on going every Tuesday, and I'm glad that they are nice enough to let a young guy like me since I just turned 18 a little while ago in on the jams when most of them are over 30. I just really learned harmonica since this summer, and I am really liking playing for others now and hope to do alot more. harmonicalessons.com sure has helped a lot to teach myself good harp.
