"Songs from World war one"

   Hi folks,
I would be very grateful if anyone has harp tabs for any of the following tunes, or indeed knows where I can purchase tabs for any songs from the Great War...
It's a long way to Tipperary
Pack up your troubles
Good bye-ee
Oh! It's a lovely war
Here we are again
roses of Picardy
Keep the home fires burning
If you were the only girl in the world
Fall in and follow me
Hello, hello, who's your lady friend?
take me back to dear old Blighty
Colonel Bogey march

Much obliged guys,
Best regards,
Craig.

   Craig,

I think your best bet would be to find a good source of midi files. Try a Yahoo or Google search with the name of the song followed by the word midi, it will turn up a bunch of hits. I tried: "It's a long way to Tipperary midi" and got a bunch of hits, including this one:
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/ww1-music/auto-tipperary.htm

Save the midi file on your disk, then open it with the Harping Midi program:
http://www.harpingmidi.com

Select the instrument that best represents the notes you want to play and have the program generate the harmonica tab.

Both of these processes require some knowledge of the computer and the midi program, so be patient and keep at it. Dont' forget to buy the midi program if you use it.

Good luck,

Alan

It's a Long Way to Tipperary - diatonic harp, 1st pos.
------------------------------------------------------

(verse 1)
7B 8B 8D 7B 6D 6B 5B 5D 6B 6D 6B 5B 6B
Up to mighty London came an Irish--man one day

7B 8B 8D 7B 6D 6B 5B 6B 7D 7B 7D 6B 7D
As the streets were paved with gold sure ev'ry--one was gay

7B 8B 8D 7B 6D 6B 5B 6B 7D 7B 7D 6B 7D
Singing songs of Pic-ca-dil-ly, strand and Leicester square

8D 8B 8D 7B 7D 8D 7B 8D 8B 7D 6D 7D 7B 8D
'Til Paddy got ex--ci-ted then he shouted to them there

(chorus)
5B 5D 6B 6B 6B 6D 7D 7B 8B 8B 8D 7B 6D 7B 6B
It's a long way to Tipper--ar--y, it's a long way to go

5B 5D 6B 6B 6B 6D 7D 7B 8B 7B 8D 8B 6D 7D 7B 8D
It's a long way to Tipper--ar--y, to the sweetest girl I know

6B 6B 6D 7D 7B 8B 9D 6D 7B 8D 8B
Goodbye Pic-ca-dil-ly, Strand and Leicester square

7B 8D 8B 8B 8B 7B 8D 7B 6D 6B 7B 8B 7B 8D 7B
It's a long, long way to Tipper--ar--y but my heart's right there

(verse 2)
Paddy wrote a letter to his Irish Molly-o
Saying "Should you not recieve this, write and let me know."
"If I make mistakes in spelling, Molly dear," said he
"Remember, it's the pen that's bad. Don't lay the blame on me."

(verse 3)
Molly wrote a neat reply to Irish Paddy-o
Saying "Mike Maloney wants to marry me, and so
Leave the Strand and Piccadilly or you'll be to blame.
For love has fairly drove me silly hoping you're the same."

I've got a couple of others for chromatic harp. If you want them, say the word and I'll post them here in a few days.

Here's one. I'll post the other in a day or two... or three... or...

As I said, these are for chromatic harp. I have used the symbol < to indicate when the slide button should be pushed.

Pack Up Your Troubles - chromatic harp

(verse 1)
Private Perks is a funny little codger
8B 9D 10B 9D 8B 7D 8D 8B 7D 7B 6D

With a smile, a fun-ny smile
6B 7B 8B 10B 9D 10B 8B

Five feet none, he's an artful little dodger
8D 8D 10B 9D 8D 7D 8D 8B 9D 10B 8B

With a smile, a fun-ny smile
7D 7B 6D< 8B 7B< 7D 9D

Flush or broke, he'll have his little joke
9D< 9D< 8B 9D< 7D< 7B< 7B 7B< 7D<

He can't be suppressed
9D 9D 8B 7D 9D

All the oth-er fellows have to grin
9D 9D 10B 8D 8B 8D 8B 9D 10B

When he gets this off his chest, so!
9D< 10B 10D< 10B 8D 7D 7B 11B

(chorus)
Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
7B 7B 7D 7B 6D 6B 6D 7B 10B 10B

And smile, smile, smile
9D 8B 7D 7B

While you've a lu-ci-fer to light your fag
7B 7B 7D 7B 6D 6B 6D 7B 10B 10B

Smile, boys, that's the style
9D 7D 8D 7B 9D

What's the use of wor-ry-ing?
8B 9D 10B 8B 8D 8B 9D

It nev-er was worth while, so
10B 10D 9D 10B 8B 9D 11B

Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
7B 7B 7B 7B 6D 6B 6D 7B 11B 11B

And smile, smile, smile
10D 10B 9D 8B

(verse 2)
Private Perks went a-marching into Flanders
With his smile, his funny smile
He was loved by the privates and the commanders
For his smile, his funny smile
When a throng of Bosches came along
With a mighty swing
Perks yelled out, "This little bunch is mine!
Keep your heads down, boys, and sing," so

(verse 3)
Private Perks he came back from Bosch shooting
With his smile, his funny smile
'Round his home he set about recruiting
With his smile, his funny smile
He told all his pals, the short, the tall
What a time he'd had
And as each enlisted like a man
Private Perks said, "Now my lad!" So

I know this is not from this War original, but is the Battle Hymn of the Republic played chormatic, og straight harp ?

And has someone the tabs for this. I tried to tab it using the harping software, but there is something that dosen't sound right each time I try to tab it.

The melody seemed pretty straight forward to me, at first. 8-)

Play it again Sam

I'd have to look into that one. Of course, you can play anything on a chromatic. But it might be playable on a diatonic. I'll see what I can come up with.

Well, that didn't take much looking into. I had downloaded a couple of MIDI versions of Battle Hymn of the Republic intending to convert them to tab with Melody Assistant, but I didn't need to go to all that trouble. All it took was a few minutes with a harp and a pencil & paper, and it was easy to work out. Here 'tis:

Battle Hymn of the Republic - diatonic harp, 1st pos.

(verse 1)
Mine eyes have seen the glory
5B 6B 6B 6B 5D 5B 6B

Of the coming of the Lord
7B 8D 8B 8B 8B 8D 7B

He's trampling out the vintage
7B 6D 6D 6D 7D 7B 7D

Where the grapes of wrath are stored
7B 6D 6B 6D 6B 5B 6B

He hath loosed the fateful lightning
5B 5B 6B 6B 6B 5D 5B 6B

Of his terrible swift sword
7B 8D 8B 8B 8B 8D 7B

His truth is marching on
7B 8B 8B 8D 7D 7B

(chorus)
Glory glory hal-le-lu-jah
6B 5D 5B 6B 7B 8D 8B 7B

Glory glory hal-le-lu-jah
6D 7D 7B 7D 7B 6D 6B 5B

Glory glory hal-le-lu-jah
6B 5D 5B 6B 7B 8D 8B 7B

His truth is marching on
7B 8B 8B 8D 7D 7B

(verse 2)
I have seen him in the watchfires
Of a hundred circling camps
They have builded him an altar
In the evening dews and damps
I can read his righteous sentance
By the dim and flaring lamps
His day is marching on

(verse 3)
I have read a fiery gospel writ
In burnished rows of steel
"As ye deal with my contemners
So with you my grace shall deal"
Let the hero born of woman
Crush the serpent with his heels
Since God is marching on

(verse 4)
He has sounded forth the trumpet
That shall never call retreat
He is sitting out the hearts of men
Before his judgement seat
Oh, be swift my soul to answer him
Be jubilant my feet
Our God is marching on

(verse 5)
In the beauty of the lilies
Christ was born across the sea
With a glory in his bosom
That transfigures you and me
As he died to make men holy
Let us die to make men free
While God is marching on

Keep the Home Fires Burning - chromatic harp
< = push slide button

(verse 1)
They were summoned from the hillside
4D 4B 5D 4D 6B 4B 5D 4D

They were called in from the glen
3B 3D 4D 3B 4B 3B 4D

And the country found them ready
3D 3B 2D< 3D 4B 6B 5D 4D

At the stirring call for men
3D 3B 2D< 3D 2D< 2B 1D

Let no tears add to their hardships
4D 4B 5D 4D 6B 4B 5D 4D

As the soldiers pass along
3B 3D 4D 3B 4B 3B 4D

And although your heart is breaking
3D 3B 2D< 4D 4B< 5D 6D< 6B

Make it sing this cheery song
5D 4D 2D< 3D 4D 6B 5D

(chorus)
Keep the home fires burning
4D 4B 5D 4D 4D 3D

While your hearts are yearning
3B 3D 4D 3B 3B 2D<

Though your lads are far a-way
2B 2D< 3B 2B 1D 3B 4D

They dream of home
5D 4D 3D 3D

There's a silver lining
4D 4B 5D 4D 4D 3D

Through the dark clouds shining
3B 3D 4D 3B 3B 2D<

Turn the dark clouds inside out
2B 2D< 3B 2B 1D 3B 4D

'Til the boys come home
5D 4B 4D 3D 3B

(verse 2)
Overseas there came a pleading
"Help a nation in distress"
And we gave our glorious laddies
Honour bade us do no less
For no gallant son of freedom
To a tyrant's yoke should bend
And a noble heart must answer
To the sacred call of "Freind"
