"parts"

Thinking of modifing my own harps, can't justify the price of some customs, but like some of the features, so.... Does anyone know where to find the tiny "post" or "sex" screws like the ones that hold a Golden Melody together?

Steve,

Hohner parts can be gotten from the Hohner Company if necessary. I've always saved my old harmonicas and then savaged parts from them when needed. Do you have any old Golden Melodies lying around?

Play on,
Dave Gage

   hey Dave,

Well, I checked hohners site (hohner usa unless you are refering to another site) and the only parts I could find were reed plates. I only have one Golden Melody, as they realy weren't the harp for me. I've tried McMaster Carr and a few other hardware suppliers, but these things are tiny! .065 or 1/16" on the screw diameter. my goal is to custom build marine bands

Steve,

Hohner USA does have everything, you just have to ask. Either email them or check their website for a phone number and give them a call.

By the way, have you checked out the new Marine Band Deluxe yet? These things are now everything that Marine Bands should have been for decades (except the reeds will still blow out faster than Hohner MS or Lee Oskar reeds, not unlike Special 20's).

Play on,
Dave Gage

   Dave-
yeah, I've seen the MB deluxe, but I'm still a cheap SOB! Any way I had seen a set-up on a customizer's site, a real nice drill jig that he had machined, and I know it's somthing I can do, kind of mixxing up my hobbies (not that I want to try and make the screws myself! I might go blind) as far as hohner's site, thanks for the tip about calling them and thanks for the quick replies

Steve,

Not a problem. If you have any trouble contacting Hohner, email me, and I"ll look up the info and send it to you.

I've literally spent hundreds and hundreds of hours doing and attempting modifications to diatonics and chromatics over the last 25 years (I don't have the time any more to do it so I just buy new ones or replace reed plates and put the time into playing). If you have any questions, let me know.

Play on,
Dave Gage

For more than you want to know about customizing your harp and getting the reeds and parts to do so....

http://www.harp-online.com/

Then click on Workshops...
Then click on Chmel System...
Then click on Diatonic or Chromatic

Step by step instructions, pictures, etc.

You can buy parts, but it is tricky finding the link and the english version. Good luck

Alan
