"VC508&ShakerDynamicMic"

Recently brought home my first mic/amp unit. What a blast. My question is this - I practice several times a day, always learning new techniques and tunes/riffs and not always using the amp. Might as well practice first before blowing my mistakes all over the neighborhood. Is it better to leave the amp on between sessions or can it be switched on and off without harming the tubes. Thanks

I was in the electronic repair business way back in the tube days. When you turn on equipment with tubes, there is a small heater in each tube which brings it up to operating temp. If you turn tube stuff on and off, it is hard on the tubes. The old equipment I worked on in the Navy was left on 24/7 and we had less tube failure than if it was turned off each time it wasn't used. If it was my amp, I would leave it on during and between sessions, and turn it off after the last practice session of the day.

For that very purpose more expensive amps come with a stand by switch. The most wear and tear a tube gets is warm up and cool down. The man knows his stuff.... Leave it on...

That all depends on the amp construction though.... Navy electronics are built to withstand a lot more than a guitar amp is.

I'm not familiar with the VC508 -- is a PCB based amp or point-to-point wired? Does it use plastic or ceramic power tube bases? Do the tubes hang down or stick up?

Of those, the PCBs, plastic bases and hanging down all increase the chance of something overheating, melting, shorting out and starting a fire if left on longer than necessary.

Safety first!

Titch.
