"First mic : SM 58 or Green Bullet ???"

   Hello !

I want to buy myself a mic. I dont know witch one between a SM 58 or a shure green bullet. I play mostly the blues and I want a dirty Chicago blues sound. But I found that the green bullet may gives always the same sound, and sometimes it is also interresting to play clean or to change a bit. SM 58 is a versatile mic, but it may not give an enhout "bluesy" sound. I dont know what to do. I aslo thought about playing with my sound directly from the amp, or with a pedal.. Wath do you recommand ???

Note : I dont have a lot of money to put, because I'll have to buy a amp too.

Sorry for english mistakes,

Ulix !

Ulix,

Both mics are good and very different. Bullet mics are always used for the traditional Chicago blues sound. You are right when you say the SM58 is versatile, but it won't give you the over-driven bluesy sound you may be looking for. The decision is yours, but it sounds like you would be best off with a bullet mic and small amp to get you started.

Read through our Mics and Amps section for more info-

   Thanks a lot !

I will buy me a bullet mic ( I took the decision ) ). But now, two things : Can you give me a great online store that can deliver this in canada ? (musician friends does'nt). Also, people here seems to like the pignose amp for a beginner cheap amp, but it doest have any EQ or overdrive, gain and treble control... Does a greet bullet will sound great with a pignose ? Do you have any other suggestions, good brands, etc... It has to be cheap (under 200 US$).

Thanks !

Ulix,

Try a search at google.com for a store that ships to Canada if you can't find equipment locally.

I have always thought that Pignose amps sounded awful for harmonica, but I haven't played through anything they've put out in the last ten years, so I may not be the best person to offer an opinion on them.

I suggest you take a look at the amps we list at Harmonica Store.com, and read through our reviews. Although you can't buy it through our links, they are still good amps to buy elsewhere. As you mentioned, I would try to find a small amp with EQ or overdrive, gain and treble control and reverb if possible.
