Number and Arrow system w/bend
The number and arrow system.

  • "Song Lessons" section (with instruction)- Our "Song Lessons" section supplies melodies and harmonica parts that are used in conjuction with the Lesson Plans and includes some instruction. The song lessons are displayed with the common "number and arrow" system of notation as shown above. In contrast, the Tabs Sections use a type of "text tablature" and do not include instruction, only the melody notes.

  • "Number and Arrow" system of notation- The "up" arrows indicate blow (exhale) notes and the "down" arrows are for the draw (inhale) notes- The little "b's" under the bent arrows are flat signs. One "b" is a half step bend and two "b's" are a whole step bend (as shown in the graphic above). Bends are not necessary for the Beginning Level Songs.

  • Songs for playing levels- The songs accessed from the blue links above range in playing level from beginning to intermediate to more advanced. The beginning songs are all played in the 1st position while the intermediate and advanced level songs are all played in the 2nd position.

  • 3rd position Songs- The 3rd position songs range in difficulty from beginner to advanced level. All of these songs in are in minor keys and some are fairly easy even for beginners.

Use the blue links in the gray navigation box at the top of the page to visit the "Song Lessons" section appropriate for your level.

"Thank you for the best harp site on the net. Each time I log on I learn something new. I am a beginning harp player. I struggled around with the books. Now I think I wasted the money. The web is a great place to learn and buy." - Sincerely, Jon Charles

TESTIMONIAL
"I was getting pretty frustrated trying to learn the Harp alone when I came across your web site. I find it very clear and interesting. It's the next best thing to having a private teacher sitting with you!" - Jim Porter
