After a gig I soak my LOs in a bowl of warm water with about 4 of those fizzing denture tablets for around 30 minutes and then I rinse them and pat & tap them dry. It hasn't ruined any of my harps. Obviously this couldn't be done with wood combs, but if your going to remove the read plates anyway, you might want to give it a try. Good luck, Blindtater.
