- "Tabs" (or Tablature) defined- Tabs are a simplified way to notate harmonica solos, harmonica parts, melodies and songs, without having to formally read music. In contrast to the Song Lessons section, the Tabs section uses a "text tab" style of notation for ease of tab creation by staff and members. Below is an example of our text tab system for 10-hole diatonic harmonica. It is explained in greater detail when necessary on the specific tabs pages. Chromatic harmonica tab is explained on the Chromatic Harmonica: Songs/Scales page.

- Find more tabs in the "Tabs and Songs" Discussion Forum- Our talented and generous members have also added their own tabs and songs to the website. The member-submitted tabs are found in the "Tabs and Songs" Discussion Forum. At last count, there were over 100 submissions already posted at this Forum. Make a request or add one!
- Tab and Song Books available- Visit our Store's Song & Tab Books page to view a list of Tab books available for numerous harmonica players. Included are: Bob Dylan (harmonica solos and song book both available), Little Walter, Sonny Terry, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, and more.
- Timing for the Tabs is not included- You will note that the timing is not included in the tablature. If you don't know the harmonica part or melody well, you will find it difficult to play correctly. The more famous rock and pop harmonica parts have a link to buy the original CD to listen to.
You should know how the part or song sounds, including the timing, before attempting to play it if you want it to sound like the original. If you prefer the complete music for piano with chords and timing included, you can visit our Store for song, tab, and "fake" books that include numerous artists and styles of music.
Use the blue links in the gray navigation box at the top of the page to visit the "Tabs" section of your choice.
