Do you have one of those portable electronic keyboards? If so, just find the note that seems to best harmonize with the song by ear. That gives you three basic choices: Straight harp - playing in the same key, or cross-harp (2nd position) - playing in the key 4 steps up (example - C key = C-D-E-F = F diatonic harp), or 3rd position harp (example - C key - C-D-E = E diatonic harp). There are other positions (12 in all, for all 12 notes in the chromatic scale!), but they're more advanced.
